"Founded in November 2011 by Korea Government, the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) supports basic research within the entire range of natural sciences including physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, earth science, and astronomy by providing highly advanced, supportive, self-direct research environments."
IBS invites applications for the positions of Associate Directors who are senior-level researchers with high research potentials, running own research group in collaboration with the directors within their Research Centers.
Our center will explore the mechanisms underlying various neuropsychiatric disorders by focusing on defects in synaptic development, structure, function, and plasticity, and also abnormalities in neural circuits at the brain system level. These key mechanisms will help us better understand, diagnose and treat mental illnesses, and eventually to understand their flip sides; higher brain functions including consciousness, attention, intellect, sociability, and emotion.

Our center plans to study diverse neuropsychiatric disorders including autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disability, schizophrenia, and emotional disorders by focusing on neuronal/synaptic proteins. We will be exploring the disorders at diverse levels including molecule/synapse/circuit/behavior mainly using animal models.
